Each month we take an online resource and offer a one hour introduction to it. This month it is Google and Beyond - read more (and find out how to book a place).

Extent of bird flu epidemic

A brief item in the latest BMJ discusses a paper in the NEJM that bird flu may be more widespread than thought. Because of an increase in the costs, we no longer have online access to the NEJM, but PubMed has an abstract; and there is a link to that from this brief item.

NIH to provide free public access to publications

Another long silence from this blog...

The BMJ of 12th February (among other places) reports the NIH intention to make studies that it has funded freely available on the web as soon as possible, or within one year at the longest. Material will be placed in PubMed Central. Read more in the BMJ.

Changes to PubMed

PubMed has a new feature: "My NCBI". You can use it to save searches and arrange to receive regular email updates. You can also change some of the search settings. I have updated our PubMed online tutorial to take account of these changes - go to
http://inhale.hud.ac.uk/perl/jump.pl?72-736 for that tutorial.

There are PubMed training sessions here at Clinical Sciences Library on 23rd and 25th February - details have been circulated by email. Places are disappearing fast!
So much for up to dateness!

I have not added anything for days and days. Apologies (if there is anyone reading this!) - there has been teaching, and Sirsi Rooms (a new way to present links to web resources) - watch this space!
