What's new in midwifery - 26th January 2021

Some new things you might want to know:

Maternal health

The Guardian wrote about a new report from MBRRACE-UK, showing that black women are more likely to die in pregnancy or childbirth.   The report itself is the one called "Improving mothers' health", available from https://www.npeu.ox.ac.uk/mbrrace-uk/reports.   There is another new one on that page, on stillbirths and neonatal deaths in twin pregnancies.

Audits - perinatal mental health

National Maternity and Perinatal Audit – Mental health sprint audit report (Scotland data), .  This looks at mental health and maternity data from Scotland, based on births between April 2014 and March 2017.

COVID-19

An overview of systematic reviews on maternal and neonatal outcomes - Maternal and Neonatal Characteristics and Outcomes of COVID-19 in Pregnancy: An Overview of Systematic Reviews.

Systematic reviews

A Cochrane review of Antenatal corticosteroids for accelerating fetal lung maturation for women at risk of preterm birth.    And an overview of Cochrane reviews about Antenatal interventions for preventing stillbirth, fetal loss and perinatal death: an overview of Cochrane systematic reviews.

Finally

Guardian article by an author who researched childbirth for a historical novel and then had a baby herself.

Stay safe.
