What's new in midwifery - research - 11th May 2022

Librarian intervention or advice (or your own subscription) may be needed to see the full papers for some of these.

First, a qualitative evidence synthesis of Black, Asian and minority ethnic women's experiences of maternity services in the UK.

Then, a systematic review of phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors in pregnancy, looking at maternal and perinatal safety and clinical outcomes.   The study looked at tadalafil and sildenafil, the latter of course being Viagra, and these may be used in pregnancy in cases of placental dysfunction, foetal growth restriction, or maternal hypertension.  There is discussion of the STRIDER trial, one arm of which was stopped following foetal deaths.

A systematic review of the efficacy and safety of pharmacological interventions to prevent mother to child transmission of hepatitis B.

A systematic review of COVID vaccination among pregnant people in the US.

This trial ought to get a prize for its acronym, BUMP2, but a UK based randomised controlled trial of the effect of self monitoring of blood pressure on blood pressure control in pregnant individuals with chronic or gestational hypertension.

And last of all, a systematic review of vitamin D supplementation in children aged 0 - 6, although I am not clear how many of the participants in the included trials were of which age, and the results seem not to have been stratified.
