What's new in midwifery - 9th November 2022

Some recent things you may find useful to know about...

First, a new Cochrane review looking at support for healthy breastfeeding mothers with healthy term babies.  (free to access in the UK).

And a plain language summary from NIHR of a trial comparing e-cigarettes with nicotine patches for smoking cessation in pregnancy.

Then, two trials.  One looking at whether higher parenteral amino acid intake improves outcomes in extremely low birth weight infants.     The trial, I think conducted in New Zealand, concluded that a dose of extra parenteral amino acids of 1 g per day for 5 days after birth did not increase the number that survived free from neurodisability at 2 years.    Published in the New England Journal of Medicine, you can read the abstract for free and watch a video summary.  (You will need a subscription or library access to read the full paper).

And a trial of group vs. traditional prenatal care for improving racial equity in preterm birth and low birthweight, a report of the Centering and Racial Disparities randomized clinical trial study, conducted in the USA.   (Subscription or library access needed for access to the full paper).
